Path change in managed Drupal installations
Preparing for Rhombic Networks’ offering of Drupal 4.7-based managed Drupal hosting, we’re cleaning up some things with our Drupal 4.6 setup.
We’ve moved the location of our Drupal 4.6 to a different location. This should have little to no effect on your sites, but if it does, please contact Rhombic Networks’ support so we can help you fix it.
caligula downtime
caligula was accidently shutdown rather than rebooted during a routine software update. Downtime was under 5 minutes.

machina is going to be decommissioned from Rhombic Networks’ network of servers. This will primarily affect MX e-mail backup and DNS services.
SpamAssassin outage
SpamAssassin was down last night on caligula again—cause is still unknown. This is the second time it has occured and we are going to seriously start looking into why this is happening.
In the meanwhile, if/when it does happen again, be assured that it means a loss of no e-mail; messages that would have been marked as spam will just end up in your Inbox folder.
Issues with SpamAssassin spam filtering
There were some unknown problems with spam filtering last night on caligula, resulting in spam messages getting delivered to your inbox (you should never lose e-mail with our Rhombic Networks’ e-mail services).
It now looks to have been resolved, but we are still monitoring the situation. Please contact our support if you see any problems.
Authenticated SMTP downtime/error
STATUS: FIXED. This problem has been resolved, and you can now continue using Rhombic Networks’ SMTP servers.
If you connect to mail.rhombic.net/mail.nabladesign.com via SMTP to send your e-mail, you will get an error about PLAIN authentication not being supported, and authentication failing. Your e-mail will NOT get sent, and should be queued in your outbox.
This problem is being worked on and will be fixed as soon as possible.
Available workarounds:
- Use your ISP’s SMTP server. Configure your e-mail client to use your home network/ISP’s SMTP server.
- Webmail. Use Rhombic Networks’ Webmail to send your messages
- The Outbox folder. Create and use an Outbox folder as detailed in our knowledge base entry on sending e-mail.

Issues with a.ns.nabladesign.com and DNS on caligula
One of the (supposedly) routine upgrades today rendered the DNS services on caligula inoperable, including:
- resolution of DNS names
- operation of the authoritative DNS server a.ns.nabladesign.com
Issue 1 prompted discovery of this problem. Issue 2 was not a major problem as Nabla Design’s DNS servers b.ns.nabladesign.com and c.ns.nabladesign.com continued to answer authorative requests without problem.
Service is now restored.
